Humanitarian Action training

Humanitarian action involves a series of activities aimed at providing aid to victims of natural disasters or armed conflicts. Its aims are to relieve the suffering of the population, guarantee their survival, protect their basic rights, and defend their dignity. Humanitarian operations occasionally comprise additional efforts to prevent the socioeconomic strangulation of a community.

Accordingly, relief agencies provide access to life-sustaining goods and services such as food, water, clothing, medication, and health care. Aid can also take the form of long-term care of refugees and IDPs and the protection of victims and their basic rights via actions and tactics such as civilian protection, témoinage, denunciation, political pressure, and accompaniment.

Humanitarian aid is characterized by ethical and operational principles, including, notably, humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence. These principles underlie the fundamental notion that humanitarian action must address the needs of the civilian population and not the political or economic interests of the governments.

The need for training in Humanitarian Action

The BIPRC offers specialized courses in humanitarian action designed to support efforts by national and international agencies that bring relief to populations affected by humanitarian crises.

Effective response to crisis situations and their devastating consequences requires prior planning, which includes being able to accurately identify the human resources required to act rapidly. It is essential to educate and train those deployed to respond to these challenges as this will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of response operations when time is of the essence.
